If you stroll through the residential neighborhood of Highgate in the northern part of the British capital, you'll be struck by its tranquility and quality of life. Vast green spaces intersect the lanes of bourgeois Victorian houses. Amidst this affluent district lies a cemetery. But not just any cemetery. Highgate Cemetery, located on the Hampstead Hill, is one of the "Magnificent seven": a series of 7 private cemeteries built for the upper classes at the end of the 19th century.
